spalted maple, copper, dried flowers, pyrography, aniline dyes, tung oil
[13" H x 7" diameter]

I created this piece towards the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. I wanted to express the anxiety and sadness of isolation that comes with this pandemic, and also celebrate the ways we find to connect with each other and flourish even though we are physically isolated.

The wooden vessel is made from spalted maple. The glyphs and decorative features were burned into the wood and the bottom part was dyed with yellow and red aniline dyes. It is finished with tung oil. The metal is copper feeding into and twined around dried flowers/plants.
